Dr. Alessandra Solberg
Dr. Solberg is a clinical and forensic psychologist licensed in Virginia and Colorado. She is also PSYPACT certified (Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology and Temporary Authorization to Practice) which allows her to practice telepsychology in 40 states.
Dr. Solberg is an expert in psychological evaluation and severe / persistent mental illness (SPMI). She is an approved forensic evaluator with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services Commissioner to provide competency and sanity evaluations in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She has extensive training and experience providing criminal forensic evaluations (competency to stand trial, sanity, criminal responsibility, diminished capacity, sentencing/mitigation, conditional release, and risk assessment). She is also certified to conduct various civil forensic evaluations, including those related to personal injury, disability, workers’ compensation, and civil commitment.
Although Dr. Solberg is now primarily focused on evaluations services, she is accepting adult (18+) therapy clients on a case-by-case basis. She takes a humanistic approach to her clinical work, valuing each individual as one’s own expert and assisting people to discover & capitalize on their internal resources. Her areas of clinical expertise include crisis intervention, risk management, the treatment and management of severe mental health conditions (psychosis e.g., schizophrenia spectrum disorders, personality disorders, bipolar I disorder), and depth psychology. She also provides family systems therapy.
Dr. Solberg earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Penn State University in 2016. She obtained her doctorate in clinical psychology in 2021 at William James College in Massachusetts. In 2020, she moved to Denver, Colorado for her predoctoral internship at the Colorado Mental Health Hospital-Fort Logan (CMHH-FL) where she continued her training in the treatment and assessment of individuals with serious mental illness in an inpatient state psychiatric hospital setting. She also received training in criminal forensic evaluations, primarily related to competency and sanity. Dr. Solberg then completed a formal postdoctoral forensic psychology fellowship through the Colorado Department of Human Services – Court Services Department where she received more intensive and robust training, education, and experience in various criminal forensic evaluations, including those related to competency, sanity, conditional release, violence risk assessment, preemployment police officer candidacy, and fitness for duty. Following the completion of her postdoctoral training, she returned to CMHH-FL as a licensed forensic psychologist where she spent approximately 5 years developing treatment programming, policies, and operating procedures for three new competency restoration inpatient units. During her time at CMHH-FL, she became a supervising psychologist who directly oversaw the unit-forensic psychologists, and she established a forensic-specific predoctoral intern training track for CMHH-FL’s APPIC accredited internship program (through University of Denver’s Consortium).
Dr. Solberg joined REDEFINE Psychological Services as a 1099 Contractor in July 2026 and will be providing services virtually until she is permanently relocated in the area later this year.
